Veggie Pesto Pasta

Hi guys!
I've been struggling with what to do with this blog for a while and because of that, it's been kind of neglected. But I've decided to make it a lot more food based, and I have an amazing recipe for you today! I made this pesto pasta one day when I had literally NOTHING in my fridge, ad it was so delicious! It was also super speedy to make, and tasted great the next day too!

What You'll Need:
Pasta of your choice (I chose Rotini)
Leafy Green (I used a Baby Kale mix)
Other Veggies (I used Cherry Tomatoes and Shredded Carrots)
Pesto (Mines is from Costco, but if you make your own more power to ya!)
Chicken (I used shredded Rotisserie Chicken from Costco!)

How To:

  1. Cook the pasta according to the directions on the box. Salt the water and try to shoot for al dente pasta because it'll cook a tiny bit more once it's in the sauce! Also, reserve around 1/3 cup of pasta water!
  2. Take a deep pan or a small pot and add the 1/3 cup of pasta water with a splash of olive oil. Add your vegetables and cook until your veggies are tender and your greens are wilted.
  3. After your veggies are cooked, add in your chicken until it's warmed through.
  4. Add your pasta back in and toss. By now, most of the water should be evaporated, and if there's a tiny bit left, you're perfect! Add in your pesto! I did A LOT because I'm obsessed with pesto, but you can add as much or as little as you want! Toss to coat.
  5. If you want, you can top it off with a bit of cheese! If not, eat it while it's hot!

I hope you enjoyed this recipe! If you try it out, tweet me a picture (@a_modern_girl) and let me know what you think of it in the comments! Also, follow this blog on bloglovin to be updated when new posts go live!

IDGAF If You Think I'm a Bitch

Hi guys!
So it's been quite a while since I've posted on this blog (sorry!), but I've been so busy with the #StylishSummer Challenge that I've been running on my other blog. Today's post is going to be one of those opinion pieces I do once in a while. Keep in mind whilst reading this that it is 100% my own opinion and that you can totally agree with me or disagree with me, I don't really care.

Selfishness.

It's supposed to be a sin, something we should purge and cleanse ourselves from. If a girl is selfish and only thinks of herself she's a bitch. If a guy puts himself first he's decisive or driven. There is such a stigma about girls focusing on themselves that I don't think should exist at all.

No one in this world is going to look out for you 100% of the time. This is a fact. You are the only one capable of protecting yourself, expressing yourself, and focusing on your needs before anything else.

If someone is going through something difficult and hurts you by accident are you selfish or a bitch for letting yourself feel that pain? I don't think so. I think that in this life, no one is more important than yourself. This is such an egocentric thing to say, but it's true. If you don't let yourself be selfish, if you don't put yourself before others, if you don't let yourself live to your fullest potential what are you doing? You're sure as hell not living life to it's fullest potential. You numb yourself until you are nothing and float away with the breeze.

You can call me a bitch for always putting my needs and problems at the top of my list. You can call me a bitch for choosing to feel all the lows life brings even though society tells me to repress them. You can say that I'm a bitch, but I'm happy and that's all that matters.

AP Week

Hi guys!
So if you follow me on twitter (which if you don't, you should) you know that this past week was AP week for me! Technically AP tests are this week and next week, but I only had AP Physics and AP Euro this year, so they were all this week. I thought I'd do a very brief post sort of recapping my APs because the highs were very high, and the lows were, well, very low.

AP Physics 1:
I had this test on Wednesday afternoon and it wasn't that bad. I felt a little bit iffy going into it because electrostatics and angular kinematics are not my strong suit and both were on the test. But after, I felt pretty decent. Nothing was too interesting with this test and to be honest, I think it was the test I did best on this week.

AP Physics 2:
This test was on Thursday afternoon. Once again I was a bit nervous because of the content, but I had taken the AP Physics 1 test the day before, so I felt confident with the layout (and I knew what to expect). This test was rough! I felt pretty bad with the multiple choice, but the short answer was okay.

AP Euro:
I had this test earlier today, and all hell broke loose. I honestly felt like I was the most prepared for this test because in the class I had a longer review period and I felt just overall more confident with the material. I guess not. The test was literally everything I didn't know well. Seriously, entire decades that are super important in European history were left off of the test... It was literally so bad that everyone in my testing section just started laughing when we saw that first question...

Overall, I'm not feeling too good! I only need a 3 or higher for the Physics tests to get credit, but I need a 4 in Euro to get credit. I feel like I probably got at least a 3 on the physics, but I don't know what to think about Euro anymore! The AP scores come out in July, and I'll let you know what I got when I find out!

If you've taken an AP test this past week, let me know which one and what you thought of it! And if you're taking an AP next week (like all you bio and statistics peeps) good luck!

The Sell By Fredrik Eklund Review

Hi guys!
So I am absolutely obsessed with Million Dollar Listings New York, so when Fredrik Eklund's book came out, I had to get it! I just finished the audiobook version the other day, and I thought I'd do a mini review for you guys!

My overall thoughts are...
  • Everyone needs to get this book and listen to it, because I personally found it incredibly inspiring and life changing!
  • Be aware that he has a strong Swedish accent when contemplating getting the audiobook. I personally loved it, but you'll need to keep that in mind...
  • This may be a "business" book, but it is applicable to anyone and everyone!
If you've read The Sell, let me know your thoughts on it in the comments below! Also, don't forget to follow this blog on bloglovin to get updates when new posts go live! And lastly, I'm running a summer challenge on my other blog, so go check that out if you want to have the best summer ever!

Insurgent Review

Hi guys!
So, Insurgent came out today, and I went with my mom to see it. For all of you who don't know, Insurgent picks up right where Divergent left off with Tris, Four, Peter, Caleb, and Marcus fleeing Dauntless. I'm going to try and keep this spoiler free and just share my opinions on the movie rather than giving away plot points. With that being said, this whole post will give spoilers on DIVERGENT, so if you haven't seen the first movie, you might not want to continue further.

I think that this movie was great because it allowed for further development of the characters. Shailene Woodley is a great actress in the sense that she can portray emotions and vulnerability well. In Divergent, Tris has to see both of her parents die for her and she kills Will to protect herself. The guilt that she feels from this is super evident throughout the movie. With that being said, I think that a lot of the character development seen in the book isn't necessarily present in the movie as well. This is especially true for some of the smaller characters such as Eric.

This movie has a bit less action compared to Divergent, but the action that it does have is intense and meaningful to the plot. There is a lot of dream sequence and virtual realities in this movie, which once again helps us get into Tris' head and see the reasoning behind her actions, but also makes for some confusing and boring portions of the movie.

Although I throughly enjoyed the movie, it was sad seeing some characters that had large and meaningful parts in the first movie and book reduced to background characters. Just a heads up, this includes Maggie Q, Mekhi Phifer, and Ray Stevenson. Also, if you were looking forward to seeing Uriah on the screen, you might be a bit disappointed as he doesn't get much screen time as well.

Overall, I really liked this movie. For me, personally, I like the Divergent books and movies a lot more than I liked the Hunger Games. If you haven't read the book or at least seen the first movie, I'm not confident that you'll like this because it digs deeper into the characters and works off of the themes of the first movie. For the rest of us, I think that this was a pretty faithful adaptation of the book (as faithful as a 2 hour movie can be) and that it will be satisfying to watch.

Have you seen Insurgent? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!

My Favorite EDM Songs

Hey guys!
So tonight, I was listening to the Calvin Harris station on Pandora, while I was doing my Physics homework and all of my favorite songs were playing. I decided to take a little break from all the physics fun and do a post on my favorite EDM songs!

Midnight City - M83
This is the song that's currently playing as I'm writing this post, and I'm in love. I never get bored of this song, and it always makes me super happy when I hear it!

Outside - Calvin Harris
I literally love every song that Calvin Harris does, but this is his newest one, and I'm obsessed with it! I've literally listened to it probably 20 times today!

Blame - Calvin Harris
Like I said, pretty much every Calvin Harris song ever could be on this list, but this is the other one that I've been especially into lately! If you're wondering about the others I've been loving I'd go with Feel So Close, Thinking About You, and Pray to God.

Wasted - Tiesto
LOVE THIS SONG! It's super catchy and another song that I never get bored of!

Prayer in C - Robin Schultz
Great song, and a really sick music video!

If I Lose Myself - Alesso
I love One Republic, as many of you know, and this remix of If I Lose Myself is really great! I love how it takes a great song and makes it a little more upbeat!

So, to be honest, this post could be a lot longer, but I refrained myself! I also really like Avicii (You Make Me is great), David Guetta (Play Hard and Titanium are my favs), and Zedd (find you). Let me know what your favorite songs are in the comments, and let me know what type of music you like to listen to whilst doing homework (if you're a student)!
